Stop the Madness

Every morning, this is my alarm clock: the banshee wail of my daughter screaming, “GET OUT OF MY ROOOOOOOM!” to her younger brother. It snowballs from there—fights over cereal, over who sits where, over who is more annoying (answer: they both win!). Their constant bickering leaves me feeling like a huge parental fail. “Stress triggers the release of the hormone cortisol, which can damage our brains and weaken our cardiovascular and immune systems over time,” says neuropsychologist Rick Hanson, PhD, the author of Buddha’s Brain. We asked experts for their best instant mood boosters, backed by the latest research in nutrition, psychology, and neuroscience. Follow these tips and you’ll be saying “aah” in no time. <<READ ON PREVENTION.COM>>
